Uiliam Shekspir nuk e pat vizituar kurrë Shqipërinë, por ai vendosi komedinë e tij ''Nata e Dymbëdhjetë'' në Iliri.

"Dua të përmend një pasazh të shkurtër nga komedia Shekspirit 'Nata e Dymbëdhjetë', ngjarje e cila ka ndodhur në Ylliri, që ai, thonë se e vizitonte rregullisht, për të parë në origjinal tragjeditë e Eskilit. Si heroina 'anijembytur', e (Natës së Dymbëdhjetë) pra, po pyesim: -Cili vend, or miq… është ky? Although all of the characters speak English and there are noteworthy resemblances between Olivia's lifestyle and those of an Elizabethan gentlewoman, Shakespeare elects to specify "Illyria" as the setting of Twelfth Night. Illyria was known to Shakespeare and his contemporaries as an actual region off the coast of the Adriatic Sea in what is today Albania. As such, it was a distant land with which English had very little contact, and therefore a generically exotic setting for a play replete with romance and intrigue, as well as one that offered the preconditions for a shipwreck...

King Leir and Daughters
Leir is a legendary prehistoric king of the Britons, as recounted by Geoffrey of Monmouth.[1] His story is told in much-modified and romanticized form in William Shakespeare's King Lear.[2] In the drama, some names are identical to those of the legend (e.g. Goneril, Regan, Cordelia), and the events are very similar.[2] It is often erroneously claimed that there is a link between Leir and the Welsh and Irish sea-gods Llyr and Ler (derived from Common Celtic *Leros "Sea"), but the names are not etymologically related.[3] Leir is the eponymous founder of Leicester (Legra-ceaster or Ligora-ceaster in Anglo-Saxon), known as Cair Leir in Old Welsh, where Leir is a hydronym derived from Brittonic *Ligera or *Ligora.[4][5]
In Geoffrey's Historia Regum Britanniae, Leir followed his father, King Bladud, to the kingship of Britain and had the longest reign of all the kings at sixty years.[6] He built the city of Kaerleir (Leicester) along the banks of the River Soar.[6]
Unlike his predecessors, he produced no male heir to the throne but had three daughters: Goneril, Regan, and Cordelia, whom he favoured most.[6] As he neared his death, he planned to divide the kingdom among his three daughters and their husbands.[6] Goneril and Regan flattered their father and were married off to the Duke of Albany and Duke of Cornwall respectively, each being promised half of the kingdom to inherit.[6] Cordelia, however, refused to flatter her father, feeling that he should not need special assurances of her love, and was given no land to rule.[6] Aganippus, the king of the Franks, courted Cordelia and married her, although Leir refused her a dowry.[6] Some time later, Leir became old, and the two dukes who had married his older daughters rebelled and seized the whole of the kingdom.[7] Maglaurus, the Duke of Albany, maintained Leir in his old age, protecting him with 140 knights.[7] However, Goneril disapproved of such extravagance and after two years decreased Leir's bodyguard to only thirty.[7] He fled to Cornwall, where Regan decreased his guard to only five knights.[7] He fled back to Albany and pleaded with Goneril, but he was given only one knight for protection.[7]
Fearing his two older daughters, he fled to Gaul and his youngest child.[7] Nearing insanity, he was nursed back to health by Cordelia, after which he was held in high honour in Gaul by the leaders, who vowed to restore him to his former glory.[8] Leir, Cordelia, and Aganippus invaded Britain at the head of a large army and overthrew the dukes and their wives.[9] Leir reclaimed the throne of Britain and reigned for three more years until his death.[9] He was succeeded by Cordelia, who buried him in an underground chamber beneath the River Soar near Leicester.[9] It was dedicated to the Roman god Janus and every year people celebrated his feast-day near Leir's tomb.[9]

Gjasat e ngjashmërisë së atij haplogrupi janë nga pushtimet e legjioneve romake, dhe rekrutimet që kryenin në territoret e pushtuara ilire. Nuk është risi që Roma e kishte Ballkanin e sotëm ndër vatrat më të preferuara për rekrutimet ushtarake. Gjithsesi ky fakt nuk ka lidhje me Shekspirin dhe veprën e tij.
