"Moreover, you scorned our people, and compared the Albanese to sheep, and according to your custom think of us with insults. Nor have you shown yourself to have any knowledge of my race. Our elders were Epirotes, where this Pirro came from, whose force could scarcely support the Romans. This Pirro, who Taranto and many other places of Italy held back with armies. I do not have to speak for the Epiroti. They are very much stronger men than your Tarantini, a species of wet men who are born only to fish. If you want to say that Albania is part of Macedonia I would concede that a lot more of our ancestors were nobles who went as far as India under Alexander the Great and defeated all those peoples with incredible difficulty. From those men come these who you called sheep. But the nature of things is not changed. Why do your men run away in the faces of sheep?"
Letter from Skanderbeg to the Prince of Taranto ▬ Skanderbeg, October 31 1460

FUSTANELLA

Post by Zeus10 » Fri Jun 19, 2009 2:58 pm

Fustanella is a fold skirt, which is carried particularly in Albania and Greece(by Arvanites), traditionally by men, thus a man skirt. It can appear a short stiff skirt , usually pleated, made of white cotton or linen, and in the country of its origin Albania(or Epirus) we also find the long version. The foustanela was worn by the Albanian fighters of the 1821 revolution. It's been some time now, that the newly created nations, try to claim any Albanian heritage as their own. The following pictures/photos is in response to those false claims and show that this dress is exclusively originated from Albanian folks.

The similarity betwen Alexander costume and Albanian is astonishing.

Sometime the Greek imagination goes further, insinuating that Albanians borrowed that dress from the Greeks and thats why the dress fades out in North Albania.
Its not true that fustanella is present only in the south Albania. The following photos will prove how false their propaganda is.

Even the King of Greece after the independence is wearing an Arnavut(albanian in turkish language) costume and not a Greek one because theirs is just a borrowing-stealing from us.

The short garment appears on the ancient artifacts:

Image

Image

Since most of the greatest fighters of the so called Greek revolution were from Epirus(Albanians) and Arvanites(Albanians) the new Greek state adopted this costume as a garment for the Evzones, Proedriki Froura (Presidential Guard), an elite ceremonial unit that guards the Greek Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

Image

All the the reliable historical sources tell us that this dress is an original Arbanite(Epiriote-Albanian) dress, but
we really dont need to look the historical sources, to understand where this version was adopted from, just take a look at these pictures:

Sometimes even the women get envolved in the military actions, so they wear the same dress as the men do.
