Dimale ishte nje qytet, sita arkeologjike e te cilit gjendet brenda qytetit te Durresit, dhe sipas deshmive te te lashteve ju perkiste fisit ilir te parthineve, qe nga ana e tyre ishte degezim i taulanteve. Keta te fundit kane qene nje fis i madh ilir i stacionuar kresisht ne Dyrrahium(Durresi i sotem).



Per kete qytet ne shumicen e enciklopedive gjejme nje shpjegim tashme standart si me poshte:

Dimale (Greek Διμάλην or Δίμαλλον, Latin: Dimallum) is an ancient Greek fortified town built on the site of a settlement of the Parthini, a Taulantian tribe under Hellenization.It is located northeast of Apollonia in Krotine (modern Albania) and according to Polybius it was a "double-hilled town, the strongest among the Illyrian places, with two citadels on two heights, connected by a wall.

E para gje qe te ben pershtypje eshte se nga deshira e madhe per ta shpallur nje qytet grek dhe banoret e tij te helenizuar(nje zot e di cdomethene te helenizuar), autori i pershkrimit nxiton ta shkruaje qe ne fjaline e pare kete gje, paçka se me vone duke ju referuar Polybit e cileson ate si : "....me te forten(eshte fjala per qytezen-fortesen) ndermjet vendeve ilire". Por kjo eshte gjeja me pak e rendesishme ne kete koment. Ajo qe ka vlere eshte perputhja e emrit te tij me shpjegimin e bere nga Polybus:

Per ne qe jemi shqiptare, nuk do te ishte i nevojshem fare komenti i Polybus per te kuptuar menjehere ate qe vete emri i ketij qyteti thote; DY MALE, Διμάλη, te cilet natyrisht jane dhe kodra ose lartesi.
Vete emri Dyrrahium, eshpreh te njejten gje DY RRAHE, sepse ne shqip RRAHE i thone faqes se kodres apo malit. Te gjithe e dime qe mali ose kodra, jane ato qe rrihen nga era, deti, stuhite dhe te tjera si keto. Pra emri s'eshte aspak romak, por eshte nje sinonim ne gjuhen shqipe.

The first excavations began at this site in 1963. Since that time, a 30 meters long "stoa" (covered walkway) has been unearthed. The monument clearly resembles the "stoa" of Apollonia, indicating the strong links between these two cities. Many stamped tiles have been found, bearing the names of the workshop owners but also the word "DIMALITAN" indicating that the workshops were property of the city. The writer Polybius mentions the role of the city in the Second Illyrian-Roman war, around 218, BCE. An effort was undertaken to further fortify the city at this time. The Roman historian Titus Livius, mentions Dimal again in the events of 205, BCE when the city was ruled by Romans. Several inscriptions found during the excavations hint at the advanced political status of the ancient city.
